Chronopsychophysiology of developmental changes in selective attention and processing speed: A selective review and re-analysis.

Abstract
Aimed to show that mental chronometry (the analysis of response speed and accuracy) of cognitive development can be augmented by using psychophysiological time markers. Data from a previous study (K. R. Ridderinkhof and M. W. van der Molen were used to illustrate that the inferences from the performance analysis of developmental changes in selective attention can be strongly enhanced by evidence derived from event-related brain potentials. The results of the re-analysis demonstrated also that the performance analysis of developmental changes in response speed may conceal process-specific changes that can be identified by brain potential measures. These findings were taken to reinforce R. H. Hohle's (1967) recommendation of using multiple methods of analysis in the study of cognitive development.
