Abstract
People learn from feedback throughout their lives. For example, adolescents learn how to fit in through ‘likes’ on social media platforms and adults learn how to cook by occasionally burning dinner. This dissertation focuses on developing formal models of feedback-learning processes and applying them to understand human development from adolescence to adulthood. The first section discusses how often-applied models need to be extended to better describe human learning processes. The second section discusses how these extended models could be used to understand development. Throughout the dissertation, we apply state-of-the-art modeling techniques such as Bayesian hierarchical model fitting and adhere to good research practices such as preregistration and open sharing of data and analysis code.
