| Abstract |
Studied the impact of positive self-image about one's own general ability and belief in one's ability in a specific field of study on actual success in that field of study and on the tendency to blame failures on one's lack of ability. Ss were 1st-yr psychology students. Several weeks after beginning a university course in 1 of 3 fields of psychology (introductory psychology, personality theories, or social psychology), Ss completed the Academic Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (R. E. Wood and E. A. Locke, 1987) and answered questions on their perceived abilities in general and in the specific field of study. The results were later correlated with the eventual success or failure of Ss in their courses.
