Abstract
Tested the hypothesis of G. D. Reeder and M. B. Brewer that people are less likely to stereotype others based on individual actions when those actions represent normal behavior within the given context or when they occur on a 1-time basis. Human Ss: 444 male and female Dutch adults (1st-yr psychology students). Ss completed questionnaires that asked them to identify the characteristics and predict the future behavior of individuals described in brief stories. In individual questionnaires, the sex of the described individuals and their types of behavior were varied in accordance with the original hypothesis. The results were statistically analyzed.
