Geopolitical traditions

While speaking of a geopolitical tradition (singular) refers to geopolitics as it emerged a century ago, the plural stresses the different ways of doing or studying geopolitics. To illuminate this plurality of approaches, this entry distinguishes, first, different traditions as different ways to study geopolitics, i.e. the nexus of power and space, in political geography. Second, political geographers distinguish different national traditions of geopolitical reasoning and foreign policy practices, marked by different contexts (political, geographical, and academic). Finally, geopolitical traditions may refer to hegemonic geopolitical discourses in different periods.
