| Abstract |
Apostrophe is a frequently used device in Silius Italicus' Punica, but it has not received much attention in modern scholarship. This paper tries to fill part of that gap by exploring the emotional force of this trope in Book 6 of Silius' epic. It will appear that the many apostrophes to Regulus underscore the importance of this hero from the First Punic War for later generations. Yet, these apostrophes also draw attention to negative sides of his heroism.
