Abstract
In their joint inaugural lecture, Stefania Milan and Joël van der Weele will engage in a dialogue between two disciplines that rarely speak to each other, namely economic psychology and critical data studies. They combine the wisdom of their respective fields to illuminate the drivers of human behavior and the role of technology in making society. Milan and Van der Weele will use these insights to evaluate some of the current challenges of our democracies related to the institutions of opinion formation and the dynamics of data-driven governance, and will propose solutions to make democracy work.
