| Abstract |
Studied (1) the relationship between active vs denial-focused coping strategies, work stress, and concomitant symptoms of burnout and (2) the relationship between work stress and burnout as moderated by coping. 444 male and female physiotherapists aged 24-62 yrs in the Netherlands completed the Dutch version of the Maslach Burnout Inventory. Pearson correlation analysis and regression analysis were performed. The results showed that work stress was positively related and active coping was negatively related to all 3 symptoms of burnout: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and lack of personal accomplishment. Active coping moderated the relationship between work stress and burnout.
