| Abstract | In this thesis we review two independent lines of research directed towards helping us construct a theory of Quantum Gravity. While, in string/M-theory, we already enjoy a potential theory of this type there remain many unanswered foundational questions and missing precepts. By probing the consistency of this theory and exploring paradoxical phenomena we can hope to make progress in this difficult task. |
