Abstract This essay investigates a selection of works by the British photographer and video artist Sam Taylor-Wood. The author argues that the often autobiographical work of Taylor-Wood makes use of narrative and visual procedures borrowed from Christian hagiography. This ‘autohagiography’ allows the artist to produce images that critically reflect on contemporary modes of visual autobiography.
