Abstract Minimum wage rates are under discussion in Nigeria. Since 2011, the minimum wage remained unchanged at Nigerian Naira (NGN) 18,000. In April 2016, the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), the two confederal labour organisations in the country, proposed NGN 56,000 as the new national minimum wage to the Federal Government.
Will this be a living wage? In June 2016, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) asked the WageIndicator Foundation to work out an estimate for living wages in Nigeria, focusing on Lagos State.
