| Abstract | This thesis consists of three studies on the economic determinants of fertility behavior and its consequences for families and across generations. The first study analyzes how retirement opportunities in one generation affect fertility in the next. The second study examines how the birth of siblings influences the development of first-born children. The third study investigates how parenthood contributes to gender inequality in the labor market. |
