Abstract De Europese Commissie heeft Nederland tot de orde geroepen om de hypotheekschuld sterk terug te dringen. Hoe verstandig dat ook klinkt, de Europese Commissie miskent de fundamentele zwakheden van de Nederlandse economie die op fiscale windhandel berust. Aldus de economen Boot en Bovenberg. Het fiscale stelsel moet zo worden ingericht dat de gehele Nederlandse economie veel meer zal steunen op risicodragend kapitaal, kortom eigen vermogen.
