| Abstract |
A small bronze, partly gilded figurine (5.6 cm, APM 15.688) has been given to the Museum by a private collector. It is one of the many bronze votive gifts from the Obelisk Temple in Byblos, Phoenicia (1900 B.C.). The statue shows the influence of Phoenicia as well as that of surrounding regions. For example, the technique of gold hammered over bronze is Phoenician, whereas the modelling and overall appearance have other sources: the frontal pose is typically Egyptian and the high headdress is the crown of Hurrite gods. |
