| Abstract |
This book discusses the problem of panel effects. As respondents in a panel are subject to a heavy response burden, demotivation causes them to report lower than the actual level. In this book structural equation modelling is used to formulate methods for detecting this so-called underreporting in a consumer panel. The same technique is used to present models to correct for it, as well as models to describe the process of demotivation and underreporting itself. Due to the demotivation, respondents leave the panel (attrition) and are replaced. The consequences of the changing composition of the panel are studied as well.
