| Abstract |
The wooden sarcophagus of the lady Teuris (APM 7069), dated 2nd century AD and found in the necropolis of Tunah el-Gebel, is extensively described and discussed. The images on the sarcophagus form a coherent narrative illustrating the course of the deceased from completed mummification through the Judgment of the Scales to her appearance as a justified being before Osiris, the King of the Dead, and entry in the netherworld. Several scenes are without parallel and, as such, shed interesting light on the changing ideas concerning the Judgment of the Dead and the afterlife in Roman Egypt. |
