Abstract The article discusses the significance of the history of the humanities in relation to the academic discipline of history of science. Topics include the notion of breakthroughs in humanistic disciplines, the relationship between the humanities and the sciences in relation to the thought of philosopher Wilhelm Dilthey, and the creation of the scholarly group Society for the History of the Humanities.
