Abstract
In the context of burgeoning intellectual interest in student mobilities, this chapter provides a critical review of the academic literature on the different ways in which children and young people can be mobile, across borders, for schooling. It engages with the broader literature on educational mobilities – both localized and international. It then proceeds to focus on the particular case of cross-border schooling (CBS) – a phenomenon whereby young children cross an administrative or state boundary on a daily basis in order to attend school. This boundary-crossing has a multitude of implications for young people’s lives, but we focus on understanding what this case tells us about three elements of educational mobilities in particular: geographies, socialities, and infrastructures. We also underline the role of policies in shaping each of these three aspects of mobility.
