Abstract
Ithaca (also Ithaki) is an island in the Ionian Sea. It is traditionally considered as the home of the Homeric hero Odysseus, although some scholars suggest that Homer's Ithaca should be identified with Leukas or (parts of) Kephallenia. Archaeology indicates that the earliest human activity on Ithaca dates back to the Palaeolithic era, while the island flourished in the Mycenaean era.
