| Abstract |
This thesis consists of two parts. The first part focuses on treatment of acute lateral ankle injury, both the acute treatment with NSAIDs and rest, ice, compression and elevation as well as the subsequent treatment with tape or a brace. The Dutch directive completes this first part. The second part focuses more on the surgical treatment of acute syndesmosis injury as this may accompany an ankle fracture. This concerns both the indication and the technique for stabilizing the distal tibiofibular syndesmosis. The outcomes of this treatment and the complications are also evaluated.
