| Abstract |
This thesis aims to identify additional cardiovascular risk factors, to evaluate the efficacy and safety of novel treatment options in children with heterozygous or homozygous FH and to gain more insight in the consequences of long-term statin therapy initiated in childhood.
Part I describes the current status of diagnosis and management of hypercholesterolemia in children. Part II addresses the influence of maternal hypercholesterolemia and cardiovascular risk in the offspring. In Part III advances in the management of hypercholesterolemia in pediatric heterozygous FH are presented. Several aspects of long-term treatment with statins in children with FH are discussed in Part IV. The last part of this thesis, part V, concerns the advances in the management of hypercholesterolemia in children with the homozygous and far more severe form of FH. |
