Abstract Ghanaian politicians and moral authorities insist that care for older people is and must remain a family responsibility. They sharply criticise the use of old people’s homes and other care institutions in ‘Western’ high-income countries. This chapter explores the future feasibility of keeping older persons in their homes with their children and grandchildren and critically analyses the country’s policy towards the long-term social and health care for older people in need.
