Description
DESCRIPTION:

The spatio-temporal relative sea level curve (RSL) was developed using the software SealEveL EquatioN solver - version 4 (SELEN4; https://zenodo.org/record/3520451) (Spada et al. 2019), the global ice sheet reconstruction (ICE-5G (VM2); https://pmip2.lsce.ipsl.fr/design/ice5g/) (Peltier 2004) and DEMSRE3a (https://zenodo.org/record/1637816).

MAPPED VALUES:

Relative sea level stand below present in meter.

SPATIAL RESOLUTION:

The spatial resolution of the dataset is 0.2 degrees (WGS84).

TEMPORAL RESOLUTION:

Relative sea level for every 500 years from 0 BP to 26000 BP.

The dataset is provided in two formats:

1. TILED IN ASCII (RSL_tiles.zip):
648 tiles of 10 x 10 degrees, one folder per tile, each folder with 53 files, one per 500 yr period.
Directory naming:structure: [latitude]/[longitude]/RSL.[period].ASC
example: 10/010-020/RSL.005.ASCdescription: Tile with relative sea level from 0 to 10 degrees latitude, and 10 to 20 degrees longitude, at 500 yr BP. The folder names use longitudes from 0 to 360 degrees, the coordinates in the tiles -180 to 180. Neighbouring tiles overlap by one cell, with identical values.

53 tiles of 10x10 degrees per folder each representing the relative sea level for a 500 yr time period.
2. MOSAIC IN TIF (RSL_mosaic.zip):
53 global maps each presenting the relative sea level for a 500 yr time period.
File naming:structure: RSL[period].tifexample: RSL005.tifdescription: Relative sea level map at 500 yr BP. The period is given in hundreds of years before present (RSL000 = present, RSL260 = 26000 BP).

53 global maps each presenting the relative sea level for a 500 yr time period.
3. CLOUD OPTIMIZED GEOTIFF, PIXEL INTERLEAVED (RSL_COG_pixel.tif):
One GeoTIFF with 53 bands, one per period. Pixel interleaved with 64 x 64 tiles: fast for reading all periods of a region or of points, also directly from Figshare without downloading. This is the cloud accessible file used by the R package tabs.
4. CLOUD OPTIMIZED GEOTIFF, BAND INTERLEAVED (RSL_COG_band.tif):
The same 53 bands, band interleaved with 256 x 256 tiles: fast for maps of one or a few periods, e.g. in QGIS.
Both COGs: Float32, DEFLATE compression, overviews at 2, 4, 8 and 16 times the cell size (average). Each band is named "[n] years BP" (e.g. "500 years BP"), has the unit m and the tags TIME_BP and TIME_UNITS. The file has the tags UNITS (m), TIME_START, TIME_END, TIME_STEP, TITLE, SOURCE_DOI, LICENSE, VALUES and CITATION. The COGs were made from the mosaic (2) without resampling hosted together with the tabs R package.
