| Abstract |
This chapter analyses the notions of degrowth and post-growth and draws new implications for labour law. A transition to an economy that is in balance with planetary boundaries will most likely involve some form of degrowth policy. The chapter first explains labour law’s role in the current growth economy. The author then argues that labour law needs to widen its goals to support the shift towards addressing climate change effectively while at the same time reducing inequality and improving wellbeing through meaningful work. Many labour law principles will remain relevant because there will most probably always be ‘necessary labour’.
