Abstract The Periodic Table of Arguments is based on a grammatical understanding of categorical statements. A commentator has pointed out that taking a logical understanding of such statements would render one of the distinctions constituting the theoretical framework of the table unwarranted. In this paper, it is examined how arguments based on syllogistic inferences are represented in the table by comparing the theoretical framework of the Periodic Table of Arguments to that of Aristotle’s assertoric syllogistic.
