Curves over finite fields and arithmetic and geometry of K3 surfaces: Celebrating Jaap Top’s 60th anniversary

This issue of Indagationes Mathematicae contains eight papers on topics related to curves over finite fields and the arithmetic of K3 surfaces. This special issue is connected to the conference with the same name originally scheduled on the occasion of Jaap Top’s 60th birthday, and delayed by two years because of travel constraints during the Covid pandemic. It finally took place in 2022, from August 30 to September 1, at the Bernoulli Institute of the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. All the papers have at least one author who participated in the conference or are directly related to talks at the conference.
It is a pleasure to dedicate this issue to Jaap Top, especially as our mentor or PhD supervisor. Curves over finite fields and the arithmetic of K3 surfaces are two topics in rapid development which are among the core research interests of Jaap and to which he has made many substantial contributions.
Jaap Top has published several papers in Indagationes Mathematicae and, moreover, Jaap Top has been a long time associate editor of Indagationes Mathematicae. We are pleased that Indagationes Mathematicae accepted to dedicate a special issue for this occasion.
