| Abstract |
In 1835 publiceerde de jonge Duitse schrijver Georg Büchner het toneelstuk Dantons dood. Büchner thematiseerde in dit drama een episode uit de Franse Revolutie, namelijk de val en terechtstelling van de revolutieleider Danton. Daarmee reflecteerde hij op zijn eigen linkse engagement. Dantons dood was daarom zowel op literair als op politiek gebied een gewaagd stuk. Aangezien Büchners dilemma’s nog steeds aanwezig zijn in ons huidige politieke denken, is Dantons dood ook nu nog hoogst actueel.
