Abstract The ideas about national identity and modern science have been important for the body’s function as a category for social classification. Although the ideas were rather antagonistic they merged into a national-scientific framework in which they made it possible to identify men as Danes by physical appearance, corporeal control and behavior.
In his research, Søren Hansen looks at the body’s function as a category for social classification and how this has been reflected in the classification of Danes and non-Danes.
