| Abstract |
This thesis demonstrates that early treatment following ACL injury is safe and does not raise the risk of complications. Additionally, primary repair appears to be a viable option for selected patients, particularly as growing evidence supports its use in cases of proximal ACL tears. The research presented here, alongside the work of others, underscores that while the ACL can heal through primary repair, careful patient selection is crucial for positive outcomes. The ideal candidates for primary repair seem to be recreational athletes over 22 years old with proximal ACL tears and good to excellent tissue quality. MRI scans are effective tools for helping orthopedic surgeons assess a patient's eligibility for ACL repair preoperatively. However, to determine the definitive role of primary repair in the treatment of ACL injuries, high-quality comparative studies are needed to evaluate its outcomes against reconstruction and conservative treatment options.
