Abstract
This paper discusses some marginal morphological processes, notably stub compounding and blending and tries to show that these processes are less unpredictable and irregular than usually assumed.

Secondly this paper aims to show that the notion stub compound can only be used for a specific group of marginal morphological phenomena. Finally, it aims to demonstrate that a formal approach to blending is more appropriate than a semantic one. As an encore the paper shows that blending is not the final stage of word formation processes. It may be the starting point for new developments.

The examples presented here are mainly English. However, some German, a couple of Dutch and some Russian examples are also given to exemplify the marginal morphological processes.
