Abstract The dictum “Our Wealth is Maize and Cattle” is a literal translation of the ChiTonga adage “Buvwubi Bwesu Buli Mu Ng’ombe a Mapopwe” (KTC 2018; SZI 2019), and aptly describes the identity of those who live in the Kalomo District. Viewed also as the Farmers’ Nest, these statements summarize the heterogeneity and dynamics of the Kalomo District landscape and resonate with the social-economic profile of the district.
