Abstract Today, Pippin III (741-768) is mostly known as the Frankish mayor of the palace who became king in 751. In the Carolingian age, however, Pippin was above all remembered as the Carolingian king who subjugated Aquitaine. This article researches contemporary Carolingian representations of the Aquitanian Wars (760-768), in order to account for its prominent standing in the later Carolingian remebrance of Pippin III
