Abstract
Experiments with online therapy date back to the beginning of the internet. But eMental health really took off with the emergence of the World Wide Web, in the mid 90s. Presently, there are many eHealth initiatives, and clients may find it difficult to see the wood for the trees. Available programs vary from pure self-help (does any clinician to pass), through guided self-help (limited contact with clinicians, via e-mail, telephone or face-to-face), to pure manualized psychotherapy. In this article, we provide a brief overview of the research on these different types of internet interventions and the implementation of online assistance in (Dutch) regular healthcare. With respect to the latter, the Netherlands
are a pioneering country, which is illustrated with a description of the methods and results of the Amsterdam Interapy clinic.
