A constructive replication of White's alleged refutation of Nisbett and Wilson and of Bem: Limitations on verbal reports of internal events

Critiques P. White's analysis of R. Nisbett and T. Wilson's work on the limitations to conscious awareness of mental processes. A reanalysis of White's data demonstrated no evidence for his hypothesis that report accuracy is improved by memory for the events of the relevant process. In addition, White's experimental design is queried and a constructive replication of his experiment is designed and executed. 51 undergraduates participated in the present study. Results give no support to White's hypothesis. It is concluded that White's findings cannot be considered a refutation of Nisbett and Wilson's stance."
