| Abstract |
This book interrogates the extent to which the substantive standards of treatment in international investment treaties can be understood as expressions of the rule of law. The book also addresses rule-of-law problems or rule-of-law lacunae that exist in the application of substantive standards of treatment. Bringing together leading scholars in the field, this edited volume combines doctrinal analysis of the core substantive treatment standards and their connection to the concept of the rule of law, with critical discussion of both the potential the concept of the rule of law has as a guidepost for structuring international investment relations and the blind spots it may leave.
