| Abstract |
The influx of digital data has a tremendous impact on the field of forensics and is leading to new research challenges. This chapter presents an overview of the selection of developments. If people look into the digital competencies of forensic institutes, most of them focus on digital traces, the data, and the metadata. The top three kinds of cases are child abuse, murder, and fraud investigations, and the top three investigations are mobile phones, storage devices, and data analysis. Within multimedia forensics, recovery of damaged data is important. Data that comes in from many sources, ranging from personal computers, lawful interception, smart phones, and many new devices were cameras and sensors are stored such as the drones. The development of new devices is very rapidly, so it is nearly impossible to be prepared for all new devices, so often research is needed to add the device to a knowledge database. |
