| Abstract |
This chapter examines the wartime transformation of Novaya Gazeta, focusing on changes in its content and organization since January 2022. Chronicling the newspaper’s adaptation to the new realities of the Russian media environment, this chapter discusses issues of critical journalism, censorship, exile media, and alternative media. It demonstrates that Novaya Gazeta now operates in two ways: as exile media through Novaya Gazeta Europe and as remnant media through That Very Same Novaya Gazeta. These branches follow different rules and goals, calling for a new look at the role of critical journalism in Russia. |
