Abstract In the introduction of this article, I summon the state of the art of Sudanic Arabic and the language situation in Darfur. Then the inventory of the consonants and vowels in the language variety at issue are given, followed by phonological processes, syllable structure, word stress and historical considerations. In the conclusion I try to place the phonology of the Arabic spoken in Darfur among other Arabic dialects, especially the surrounding ones.
